I know I have begun slacking on my posts. I am at least 4 days behind. This is bad especially when I am on vacation and drinking on a daily basis and I feel like I am falling behind on my posts. I believe it is a product of the topic I have decided to blog about. Honestly, I wake up hung over as shit some days and feel not only like not going into work, but slacking off on my blogging responsibilities as well. I tell you this though, loyal follower, I will continue to drink in your name and even though it may take me a day or two to catch up on my posts, I want you to know that I appreciate you coming back to look at my posts! On to Day 2 of my "Drinking Adventure" in DC! I began the day with 7 hours of "career advising", something I could definitely use! After being told the obvious, "publish papers so you can get a good job" talk, I was ready for a beer!
On the way back from the conference, Lex and I stopped off at a liquor store near the conference center and grabbed 3 6 packs of delicious beers that are not distributed in Saint Louis (excited!). My first 6 pack was Souther Tier's 2xIPA. A heavy IPA, ripe with hops and loaded with alcohol. This beer boasts being brewed with 3 different types of grain and 4 different hop varieties. 2xIPA boasts a hefty 8.2% ABV and WILL kick you in the butt if you are not properly regulating your intake. My second 6 pack was Kona Brewing Company "Long Board". Long Board is another brew that I am unable to obtain in Saint Louis. I have tasted this wonderfully drinkable lager once before however. On my honeymoon, my wife and I went to Hawaii and we drank many bottles of Long Board. Even though I was not currently relaxing on the beach in Hawaii, one sip of Long Board returned me to my honeymoon where I was sitting on a beach in Hawaii with my beautiful bride and enjoying life unlike anything I have ever experienced since! I may try to sneak a 6 pack of it home so Abby (wife) can taste the memories too!

I know I did not make this clear earlier, but Jason joined me in this Drinking Adventure today. His bus arrived from Philly just minutes after I left the conference for the day and he has also begun drinking with me at this time.
The plan for the night is to hang with our mutual friend Tim... a blast from the past from when we all lived in Madison Wisconsin. Tim is currently a resident of DC and wanted to give us a tour of DC's historical landmarks. First, we stopped off at his mothers house to check out the view from the penthouse (pictured below). His mother had a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and we easily polished that thing off with no problem! After checking out the sights from above, we were hungry for dinner and hit a Burmese restaurant that served the Chinese beer "Tsingtao Beer". The food was good, the friends even better and the conversation was unforgettable. It is my contention, that when you get 3 people together who have not seen each other for a long time, if everything reconnects like you were never apart, then you are among true friends!!!

Tim, Jason and I concluded the night by walking from the Washington Capital Building to the National Monument and then ending at the Lincoln Memorial and the White House before calling it a night. Needless to say, it was a wonderful and memorable evening. It was a long night of drinking and sight seeing, but it was worth it and although I don't want to think about how bad I felt in the morning, it was worth it all to see my friends Tim and Jason!Join me tomorrow... for "bloody mary's revenge"

You should know that you can buy many Southern Tier products, including 2xIPA, here in St. Louis. In fact, I bought a 6-pack of the same just a few weeks ago at Randall's Wine & Spirits (located at Jefferson and I-44). In case you've not been there, I would definitely recommend it, as there are plenty of options available.
ReplyDeleteThanks JP! Friends of mine have recommended I check out Randall's before. I will have to make a day of it and head out there! If I am in the mood for a hard to find beer, I generally head out to Friar Tucks... but again, its far away from where I live and convenience is far too often a factor in what I drink! Thanks much for the recommendation though and maybe a trip to a good beer store will inspire a blog entry!
ReplyDeleteOf course, if you're looking for the very-hard-to-find, you should check out The Wine & Cheese Place or the Wine Merchant, located only blocks apart in Clayton. But who needs a recommendation? Sometimes the hunting involved in finding a good beer is part of what makes it "so good once it hits your lips."
ReplyDeleteHappy Drinking!
