| Mena taking down that PBR |
Last night was the NCAA Championship. Butler vs UConn. It was a real snore-fest! So I decided to concentrate on the beer! Since it was a rather big game, a bunch of friends decided to all meet up at a local sports bar. Like most sports bars, they have all the "big name" beers; ie. Budwieser, Miller, Coors (and of course the PBR Mena is drinking to the right). Those beers are sometimes good, but not quite in the spirit of my blog (I am definitely not trying to promote "Big Beer"). Fortunately, they had
Odells 90 Shilling on tap and I had not yet tried this beer! 90 Shilling is described as Odell's "flagship beer". It is a "medium bodied amber ale". I have to give it big points for drinkability while sitting at a bar watching sporting events and eating chicken wings. After drinking the 90 Shilling, and since I am already a big fan of Odells "Levity" (another of their amber ales), I have to say that I am really looking forward to trying more of what they have to offer!

Somewhere between my first beer and my second beer, a friend of mine told me the story of his engagement. It was a truely touching story. A story that I want to share with the world. Or at least the people who read my blog. Incidentally, I will be telling the completely fabricated and much more hilarious version of what happend!

My friend Dan is about to ask his girlfriend MaryKate to be his bride. A wonderful day in any young man's life to be sure. Dan went ahead and made sure that all his friends and family knew he would be asking MaryKate and he requested all his friends and family meet with the young couple after he proposes. This, of course, is to be kept secret from MaryKate, as she is going to be crazy surprised to see all her family immediately after Dan proposes! Dan has all these great ideas about how to propose, most of which involve them going out to dinner and meeting up with the family afterward. Unfortunately, MaryKate is not in the mood to go out! In fact, she suggests "just getting Jimmy Johns and sitting at home for the night". OH NO!! Dan thought to himself... I can't propose over a "romantic" Jimmy Johns dinner... can I?? Well needless to say, the most priceless words ever uttered came out that night. Upon having their freaky fast sandwiches delivered to them, Dan turned to his bride to be and proclaimed "I LOVE the Vito from Jimmy Johns... But not as much as I love you MaryKate!" He then proceeded to get down on one knee, extract the ring from his pocket, and propose.
We all know that she said "yes" of course... so it was a happy ending. Dan also convinced MaryKate to go out for a celebratory drink where she was again surprised by the presence of her family and friends. A very touching story indeed!
