Birthday party for the wife

Last night was my wife's 27th birthday and we decided to try a restaurant in south city Saint Louis called The Feasting Fox. This is a German style restaurant with a wide array of German foods. Sadly, however, they only had 4 beers on tap. 1) Schlafly, Pale Ale, 2) New Belgium, 1554, 3) Greisedick and 4) a Kolsch (which I cannot remember the manufacturer of). I expected better from a "German" restaurant.

My first beer of the night was the 1554 and I was really impressed with it. So much so, that I had to have 3 more after that! The rest of the table partook in the usual assortment of German Beers (the Warsteiners etc...pics below).

I am not sure if this is actually a "beer trend" as of late, but I have been noticing a lot more "dark beers" being made by craft brewers. correct me if I am wrong, but there seems to be a significant pressence of "Porters" and "Black IPAs" that was not around a couple of years ago. In fact, even I have a homebrew recipe for a dark beer that I have been calling "Red Brown" (it is an american style red beer that has porter/brown notes) that closely resembles the 1554. I should be brewing it up again sometime this summer, so stay tuned for that!

Anyway, I really did enjoy the 1554 and I think its a great way to kick off this summer of beer drinking!

I am also keeping a compiled list of beers tasted HERE that you can look at (its obviously short right now... but it WILL grow I assure you!).
