The Nats win! ASBMB Day 5

Even though it was supposed to rain, Lex and I ventured out to watch the Washington Nationals take on the Philadelphia Phillies at National's Park. Having gone to a couple of baseball games in Saint Louis, I am acustomed to paying big bucks for crappy beer at the ball game. However, I was shocked and surprised to see that National's Park had an amazing variety of craft beers on tap!

Originally I was thinking we would get stuck drinking "Miller" or "Bud" products. I was not expecting to see Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA on tap at the ball park and I was extremely happy! Since I am unable to get Dogfish Head brews in Saint Louis, I took this opportunity to endulge in as many beers as I could fit into 9 innings of baseball!

The 60 minute IPA boasts 60 different hop additions during the brewing process which leads to a seriously hoppy and yet drinkable pale ale. 60 minute comes in at 6.0 ABV and after 3 of the big "ball park" sized glasses of this stuff, I started to be glad that we took the train and I didn't have to drive home tonight!

Another side effect of copious beer consumption is increased hunger... particularly for greasy foods! I first tried to satiate my appetite with a pretzel, but that just made me more thirsty for beer, which in turn made me more hungry. We then noticed that inside the stadium, "Ben's Chilli Bowl", a DC icon, has a small stand where you can purchase their wares. By now I had a craving for grease that only a Chilli Cheese Dog and Chilli Cheese Fries could satiate! Of course I needed to wash it all down with something, and unfortunately the Ben's Chilli Bowl stand only sold crap beer, so I ended up drinking an MGD, which is a beer not even worth discussing on this forum, but in the interest of full disclosure, I figured I would let you, my loyal reader, in on the fact that even though I prefer delicious craft beers, I am not above drinking the ocasional "shit beer" if the mood strikes!

The National's went on to beat the Phill's 7-4 and there was lots of cheering and celebration with the victory! Lex and I hopped the train back to the hotel and capped the night with one more Kona Longboard from a previous post before calling it a night.

I really enjoyed the night and the beer. Being able to drink a beer that you love (60 minute) and can't always drink makes the memories all that much sweeter!
